29 Days of Giveaways for you!

Yep.

You heard me correctly – I’m giving away some amazing things for the next 29 days & YOU could be a winner! Books, Classes, Magazines, Art, and oh-so-much-more.

Read on….

A few months ago my friend Lia turned me onto the 29 Days of Giving  project and almost instantly I knew it was a perfect fit for me. Though I’ve never been what one would call wealthy or rich with material things I’m always eager to share what I have. As a child, I used to drive my mother nuts by giving away my beloved toys and books to friends, schools, neighbors or anyone else my little mind thought could benefit from said object. Each of my belongings all had their own voices to me, and if i felt someone else could provide them with a better home, or appreciate them – well I gave it away, and often without permission.

As I grew older, I loved surprising people with an unexpected care package, spoiling them on holidays and other occasions, sending a card with an appreciative note out of the blue.. the list goes on and on and on. I suppose at heart, I’m a sap. (Though I won’t often admit it).

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” -Winston Churchill

It wasn’t until I was an adult, that the real value of giving started sinking into my brain. What others called generous, I saw as selfish – because at the end of the day, I loved making people happy. Why? Because It made me feel good. I liked the optimism I’d attain, I relished the satisfaction that someone else’s day may just be a brighter, and in turn maybe they’d pass that kindness on. One by one, step by step.. the world becomes just a tad bit nicer as a result of that small, single action. I dunno, I kinda love that the universe is so much bigger than all of us and yet we are all a part of it. No deed is too small. No life is worthless. All that we touch, becomes a part of us. Kind of amazing when you really think about it.

“There is a wonderful mythical law of nature that the three things we crave most in life — happiness, freedom, and peace of mind — are always attained by giving them to someone else.”
– Peyton Conway March

I’ll spare you a long, thought out analysis of it — and get to my point. The last few years have been amazing, but I have become SO very overwhelmed creating my business, I began cutting out all the lil things that took away from that time – and somehow, giving (though always present in my head to do).. got pushed down to the bottom of the list. That proverbial ‘tomorrow’ I’d do it on, never came. The thing is… I had no idea how that would also rob me of small joys, human connections, and even how it’d take away a bit of my hopeless optimism. Gotta wonder what all I’ve missed as a result of letting that slip.

So, upon discovering the 29 days of giving site – I decided to make giving ( of myself, and of things ) a priority again. I promised myself, I’d find ways to make it work within my world again vs. convincing myself that I didn’t have time. Really, we always have room for goodness in our lives, if we let it in.

So here we are.

For the first 29 days — I recruited some friends along with myself to bring you some amazing giveaways; right here, through my lil’ blog. You simply have to check in daily, and leave a comment — or whatever instructions await you that day. Winners will be drawn using a handy generator online, and announced here. It starts tomorrow (or tonight if I am impatient).. and I hope you are as excited about it as I am.

It won’t end there either… but you’ll have to stay tuned to see what all is in store. True to form, I’ve altered the challenge a bit, and am doing my take on it.. as a permanent part of my life.

These Hands - 22

Will you spread the word about my giveaways? There’s plenty to go around, and the more people we can touch – the better.

  • If you promote this online – leave me a comment, on THIS post with a link to where you announced it; and you’ll be entered into a special contest that will run throughout the duration of this project. The winner will receive a whopping $100.00 gift certificate at my new site!
  • Everyone who particpates in this will be receiving a small, surprise something from me in the new year too.

If you’d like to be a part of this, and have something to giveaway – leave a comment, and I will get back to you – Even if it won’t fit this first part, it may fit into the next installment!

While you’re at it – let me know what you wish for on the comments. Who knows, it just may come true :-)

Adding on the links to each day, so those who come to this post directly don’t miss it!

  8. Wow – this sounds amazing! I always donate a few items during the holidays and I am pleased to meet another soul who takes kindness to heart. Keep up the good work.

I wish for the spirit of creativeness to touch upon all people, may they experience true joy when viewing art in all forms.

  9. Hi Chrysti,
What a fun idea! I posted it on my personal blog – http://craftyblogger.com/art-by-chrysti-giveaway/

  10. I have a son who was like that growing up – actually his is grown and has a daughter of his own and he is still like that – helping others, defending those who can’t defend themselves, giving of himself and his “things”.

I’m not sure what you are thinking of when you talk about for me to give away – I don’t have 29 things, but I have little art pieces I’ve made that I would be happy to give as part of this.

I’ll be posting again to my blog tomorrow and I will surely mention your “crusade” and will provide a link to this page.

  11. You know, of course, that sentence should say “he is grown…..”

  12. What an awesome idea!!

I am passing this on to my ATC-USA International group.

I know everyone there will appreciate what you are striving for.
Thanks, and I hope this will be followed through by many more of us!

I started this sharing, with my knitting efforts and today mailed off items to Scarves from the Heart, for cancer survivors and Wee Woolies; hats a nd vests for kids.

“It takes so little, to change much.”
    Thanks, Barb

  15. Hi Chrysti! What a wonderful child you were! And what a beautiful adult, too! Just from reading your post, I love you. I will definitely be participating. I just started Round 2 of it on Thanksgiving Day and have been planning to do this very thing (a round of giveaways). I have TOO much stuff in the way of craft supplies and it’s blocking my creative flow BIG TIME. So I know exactly what you’re talking about there. I will also post your link to my blog but I must first take care of my next post (which is my 100th) and I have set up a giveaway for that. I intend to get that up tonight. So right after that one, your link is going up!

Sorry for the longish post. Just had so much to say! Lots of Love! Serena

  16. Drats! I should proofread before posting! That “Round 2” is on 29 Days of Giving. What I was trying to say is that I’m also on the 29 Days of Giving site and I just started on Round 2 on Thanksgiving Day.

  17. ok try number two to posting a comment

  21. Wow Chrysti! I think what you’re doing is so beautiful! The world would be a much better place if there were more people like you!
My daughter, who is almost 9, is exactly the same way you were as a child. She wants to give everything away. She is so generous. I try to let her give “some” things away but sometimes she gets really carried away! I don’t want to squelch her giving heart so I usually say yes to her. I so admire your giving heart and I know your generosity and thoughtfulness will go much farther than even you will realize!

    Hugs to you! <3
    Julie

  22. Hey Chrysti!
I just got back from taking a carload of pots and pans to the Salvation Army… I hate to throw away something someone else might use. My hubby thinks I’m nuts… like you, though, it feels selfish because I enjoy it so much! In fact, I insisted that I get a mini station wagon so I’d have plenty of room to tote things in! LOL This sounds great, so I posted it on my webpage:
    http://www.vibrantjewels.com/jewelry/welcome.htm
    Thanks for sharing!

    Jill

  43. Thank you Chrysti for your inspirations!! I will blog about this later tonight~

    I wish for….

that you could forgive me, for the rotten way I treated you

  44. wonderful, super kind, idea! my wish is that i didn’t have this terrible cold. if i didn’t feel so badly i could be doing something much more worthwhile. but i did manage to make a small stuffed toy with my son. in spite of coughing i showed him how the sewing machine works. so that was the high point of my day to make that with my little dude. rambling. back to bed…

  45. Julie posted your link at PAO. As for a wish list….I wish you the best on your journey!

  46. What a wonderful gesture Christy, I have posted this on my blog and will email all my friends so that they may join in.

What I wish for, well since this season is the first one in 11 years that I have found the joy of the holidays again I wish that everyone who is looking for that special feeling that this time of year brings so many is brought to whom ever wishes for it. I know how special it is for me to feel this joy once lost forever I thought, now back like it’s never been gone.
What would I wish for if I were wishing for myself, well I adopted a family, a disabled young lady who is an artist and her Mom and Grandma, not for the holidays but for as long as they need my help. She could use any type of art supplies, ink pads, resin moulds, resin dyes, things I can’t seem to find. And American art magazines. It just cost so much to send the smallest thing to France that it’s been difficult for me to send much lately. If anyone is interested in donating to a fellow artist who in her country doesn’t have the opportunities to buy the supplies we have here that would be my wish.
Thanks Christy and Happy Holidays to you
    Hugs
    Bernie

  60. This is a lovely idea Chrysti. and si generous of you. I will post this to a group that I moderate and then many people will be able to see it.
    I also have one wish
I wish I could be in another Skinny Book of yours. I learned so much from you in the Cloth Paper mag. and had such a great time doing this project that I would LOVE to do another.

  61. Girl, you never cease to amaze. I got lucky the day I bumped into you in cyberspace; you inspire me repeatedly. Thanks so much for all you do, the friend you are… not just to me, but the world around you. Blogging about you in 5…4…3…2..

  62. Wow Chrysti!
    What a wonderful idea!
I love to send or deliver unexpected surprises too.
I was having trouble figuring out a charity I could afford to help this year as money is tight but once you get into it there is alot I could do – lot’s of organizations need cards to send to soldiers or deliver to sick folks, etc. And I can make ALOT of cards with the supplies I already have! I’ve found a few other things too.
And I love what you are doing. I’ll check my yahoo groups and if they haven’t been told yet, I’ll tell them.
    Thanks Chysti!
    And HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
    Kimber

  63. It is a wonderful thing to give. I am spreading the word out to the milliandecreativityclub@yahoogroups.com. Thank you.

  64. This is such a nice thing that you are doing. It takes a really generous kind person to give away for 29 days! At the moment I can’t think of anything that I wish for. Take care.

  65. This is really great of you Chrysti! I passed the word along to to all my fellow swappers at Swap-bot http://www.swap-bot.com/forums/topic/24100

  66. Maybe your sweet and generous spirit will flow into other’s hearts, as well. Many Blessings to you!

  67. Chrysti you inspire. What a thoughtful thing to do. I wish for
everyone to have peace, health, and prosperity in this magical season. I would like to help along with your generous give

    Cari

  68. Lovely, generous, and gracious. You are quite an inspiration.

  69. What a generous, “Christmas Spirit” thing to do! I’ve posted a message to one of my Yahoo groups:

  73. Hi Christi — Wow, what a great idea. I am sending this post to my meetup group of ATCers and SoulCollage artists — http://www.meetup.com/artist-trading-cards-and-soulcollage

    peace…
    Brenda

  74. How inspiring you are! I don’t have a web site but I will pass it along to all I know. Happy Holidays!

  75. What a fabulous way of spreading & promoting good deeds =) I love these sentence:

**No deed is too small. No life is worthless. All that we touch, becomes a part of us.**

Let me know if you need me to contribute something ;)

  76. Yay for Chrysti! Reconnecting with that special joy that makes you the most happy. I loved reading this post and will be glad to contribute to your 29 days of giving! Not sure what you’re looking for, but I’ve got LOTS to share. :)

Looking forward to checking in and will be blogging about your 29 days of giving tomororw when I’ve got a head a bit more clear. Foggy and groggy doesn’t make for good blog postings.
    ~Chel

  77. Chrysti, we just posted about it on our blog. Thanks for sharing at DIY City Mag Community.

    Deb & Wendy
    http://www.diycitymag.net/blog/2008/12/03/29-days-of-giveaways/

  78. Chrysti what a generous person you are!
Thank you for sharing yourself with all of us!

I was sure to put a post up on “allthingstim” yahoo group.

    alison

  79. What a lovely idea! I saw this on another yahoo group, so your word is definitely spreading.
What do I wish for? Something inspiring!
    Rinda

  80. Thanks Chrysti — I’ll cross promote!

  81. What a great spirited idea! You have already spread a lot of joy just based on these comments alone! Wonderful!

  82. What a beautiful and loving idea!!! What a movement this could start! If we all could take focus off of what we don’t have and reach out to another in real need. When my father died…after a period of morning I embraced my sadness and let it go and then found ways I could be of service to others in need and I found it to be very healing.

My wish would be to help animals who are suffering…there are many animals who have felt the effects of the troubled economy and are in basic need of food and a forever home. Many people have surrendered their pets simply because they could not afford to feed them. Maybe just a donation of food to your local animal rescue group would make me soooo happy!

  83. This is nice! I’ve blogged you at http://bunnymoney9.blogspot.com/2008/12/sweet-prizes.html :)
    Happy December!

  84. What an exciting idea! I have a car trunk load of clothes to go through and take to the Clothes Closet in our town.
One wish- scrapbook papers for my students. We’re making “ology” type books and many can’t afford to go buy extras that would make their books better.

  85. I put you on my blog at http://suziblu.ning.com/profiles/blog/list?user=1ra4qus748n1z and I really, really do want to meet you. I’m just down the road in Zebulon – you intrigue and amaze me! I would offer to meet for coffee or tea, but paint and STUFF would be so much better…. LOL!

    Edie

  86. Chrysti,
And Happy Holidays to you, too! what a perfect time of year to do this. I suspect you’re like most “givers”, and you don’t think about or expect anything in return. Would that there were more like this in the world! Ido admire your art, which is explained by your personality. Can’t have one without the other!

Thank you for your generousity. And count me in on spreading the joy.

    Rev. Ruth

  87. What awonderful idea! I totally agree with you that giving has benefits that far outweigh keeping “things” Thank you for reminding us all of that.

    Rene’ Mewes
    RM3116@charter.net

  88. Perfect for the season…will pass it (29gifts.org) on. And, yes, I too want to be gifted. How awkward and selfish that looks and sounds. It’s so much easier to give something than to be the recipient. Namaste

  89. More people like you are needed in the world. I’ll be following. I don’t have anywhere to post about you except my blog and will – but I only have 3 followers so I don’t know if that’s very helpful…

  90. Sorry, link is airgoogoo.blogspot.com.

  91. I’m not surprised by how your biz has grown. You were inspiring to me some time back, by your sweet personality, generosity, and talent! You are definitely a special peson.
I can only wish for peace in families, marriages and ofcourse the world.
Though I don’t have a bog, I will share your act of kindness to art friends. Your blessing will be returned to you.

  92. It’s wonderful to see how you can take such a lovely idea and really run with it. It’d share the news if I had a blog!

  93. I love the whole “pay it forward” idea, and try to live my life that way. I will pass the word around about your giveaways!!!

    Thanks

  94. wow great giveaway!! =)

  95. Chrysti, what a great post – much more than the typical blog candy giveaway – generous and thoughtful and affirming all at once! I reposted on my blog:

    29 days of giveaways

Also, I can donate some goodies for a giveaway – let me know; I’ll put together something special from my large and varied stash of vintage ephemera and found objects. I’m kind of a kindred soul that way – I enjoy giving it away just to share the goodness.

  96. Hi Chrysti…what a wonderful and generous idea! I’ve posted about your giveaways and the 29 Gifts Challenge on my blog here: http://lambworld.blogspot.com/2008/12/29-day-giveaway.html

My wish is that everyone who reads about your giveaways is inspired in turn to give of themselves. What a chain reaction that would be!

  97. What a blessing you are! Thank you.

  98. This is a wonderful idea, I will post a comment on my blog and spread the word! Thank you for the chance to win something…who doesnt like getting surprises.

  99. I´ll post a link to my blog immediately about your project – thanks for brightening our dark December days, Chrysti!

  100. WOW I love you. I have been in trouble all my life for giving things away. I am 56 and I still give away things. We didn’t have much growing up but if I thought you needed it more than I did I gave it to you.

    “SHARING IS CARING”

  101. […] Days Of Giveaways December 3, 2008 — Clau Chrysti is having an awesome 29 days of giveaways on her blog! All you have to do is check out her blog for instructions and spread the […]

  102. What a wonderful idea! You are so generous. I posted it on my blog http://msscrooby.wordpress.com/2008/12/03/29-days-of-giveaways/

  103. http://dreamingofcastles.blogspot.com/2008/12/29-days-of-giving.html

I posted a link on my blog and made the commitment to give with intention…. as by nature I am a giver.I have decided to take the challenge and give intentionally for the next 29 days… I consider myself a giver, but now I want to give with intention… to brighten someone’s day, to help someone, to have some meaning.

    THANKS

  104. Hi Chrysti

What a lovely and incredibly generous act. I have posted a link to my blog.

And to top it off, you have inspired me to have a giveaway on mine…. but it will have to wait until next year when I have time to make something worth giving away lol!

  105. Chrysti, you have a very kind heart. All the best for the festive season.

  106. Thank you for letting me know and charing your generosity with so many people! I’m sharing this on my blog right now and hope I win (because I’m selfish like that)! Glad you’re so kind though. :-)

    Happy Creative December!

    /Hanna

  107. Wow!! I just saw this on my friends plaxo as an invite and I am so excited. It sounds like a lot of fun. This is what the spirit of Christmas and giving, love, friendship and fun is all about. I am new to this but look forward to reading on in here everyday to see what new and exciting things are in store .

  108. such beautiful quotes and heartfelt project! Count me in and I wish for world peace and happiness, and any kind of prize from your will be Lagniappe!

  109. This is a wonderful idea. I admire people with a generous nature very much. It is something I have to work at, along with receiving. I hope it will inspire many more people to be generous. I shall pass on the word via my blog and groups :o)

  110. Chrysti, Your opening story about giving away your things as a child touched me. It reminds me of my 12 year old daughter who often does the same. For me the holidays have always been more about the giving than the recieving. I love your attitude! Ps I am posting this on my blog to spread the word.

  111. Hi Chrysti, I’ve never” blogged ” before, if that indeed is what I am doing. I’ve just read about your 29 days of giving, through your email to me and then I scrolled down to find this comment box…hope this is how it is done. It’s funny how, as I read all the other comments, how we all think alike!! I also am very much a “giver” I always buy 2 or 3 of the same item whenever I can , because I know that when I show it to a friend, they will want one too, and behold! I hand it to them!! I also just like to surprise people in line at the craft store with extra coupons that I am not using…I guess creative minds think alike….share the wealth, and make a friend!! I’ve even given the jewelry off my body if someone admires it..my husband says he feels like he has several wives to take care of!! Truly he donesn’t mind…he enjoys the look of surprise and delight on someone’s face when I just hand something to them! We are all brothers and sisters here on earth, so we might as well share with each other. Bless You for your sharing.

  112. Hi Chrysti! What an amazing woman you are…thank you for the 29 days of giveaways…just watching it and reading all the happy comments are enough for me…I love your “Wish” piece, too.

I have posted a link to your blog on mine, so hopefully, some folks will be wise enough to come over here and visit.

  113. This is such a wonderful and generous idea. Although I may not give things away online, I’m constantly making donations to local schools and spend a lot of my time trying to generate donations for AIDS Foundation. It sure does make a wonderful warm fuzzy, doesn’t it!

  114. What a wonderful idea! I have published your idea as a new topic in the Flickr Altered Domino & Other Altered Game Pieces group.

    http://www.flickr.com/groups/dominoaltered/discuss/72157610679400048/

Also, if you need a giveaway I could put together a supply package for altered art.

    Take care! joAnne / takeabreak

  115. Hi Chrysti,
what a grat idea! I saw this at my yahoo group, looks like it works !!
Thanks for sharing with us, who doesn’t like giveaways?

  116. Such generosity! Such kindenss! Thank you and I will pass the word along.

  117. Hi Chrysti!

This is such a fantastic idea and I will create a blog post about 29 Days of Giveaways with a link to you…you always inspire me and bring out the best in those around you =)

    Big hugs, Peggi

  118. I give of my time, at different times of the year. During the Christmas holidays, my family helps at the local food bank. During th spring, I run an art club for kids at a local school.
And during the summer I help at the children’s progam at my local library.

Being able to share with others, espcially chidren, fills my soul with joy.

  119. Thanks, Chrysti!
Your generous giveaway is posted on my blog.
    Happy days,
    Joanie

  120. What a great way to end the year. I too, have always given, even when I should not have. I don’t have a blog, but I will tell everyone about the 29 days of giving site. Thanks for sharing, and have a wonderful Christmas.

  121. That’s such a great idea. What are you giving away? Maybe I can add to your stash. I have many things I no longer use
and it would be great to find good homes
    for them.

  122. […] Chrysti, an art friend from The Latest Trends in Mixed Media, is starting TODAY her 29 day gift challenge.  You can read all about it on her blog. […]

  123. what a wonderful idea!!

  124. What a lovely idea. When I get home from work today, I’ll put it on my Facebook page.
I work in retail (lg. dept. store) and this time of the year has gotten so out of hand. It’s nice to see someone just gifting people with handmade and useful things. I’d rather give than receive any day.

    Regards, Nancy

  125. The greatest joy is always in the giving.

I’ve popped a heads up into my blog for you at
    http://www.fairhand.co.uk/demiurge

  126. This idea, and what you wrote, really touched me. I too have the love of giving, and I’m not just saying that to toot my own horn. I love to surprise people with gifts esp. when it’s no where near their birthday…it really is, as you said, a selfish thing cause it makes me happy at the same time. And I love listening really closely to what they say so the surprise, if I’m able to afford it, is that “how did you know that’s just what I wanted” kind of moment :)
I will be back with a link to my blog post…this whole idea is treally inspiring :)
    Have a lovely day!!

  127. wow, a lot of comments :) This is a wonderful idea Chrysti. I mentioned it and your site on my site http://www.dragonsglass.com/

this is so fitting with my personal belief to do good and right because it is the right thing to do. thank you for sharing this with the world.

  128. What a sweet, fantastic and inspiring idea. I will post on the following art groups that I’m in. The Girls will love this.
And for my wish…. I really want a Cricut machine. Hint, hint to all of my friends…tell my Hubby, hee, hee.

Hmmm… at this point in my life I wish for new clothes, especially jeans, lol. But really I pray for a larger apartment because we going to be having another baby next year. It’s crazy but life is good.

    Blessings!

  147. I am happy to join in! Sharing is the best part of art for me! I have a long time friend who taught me alot…1 of the things she would do was to give things of hers to those who would make a comment…like, “I really love that pin you are wearing”!
She would then give the person the pin!
    I love smiles and surprises!!!

  148. I too love your philosophy! If each person whose life you touch through this act of kindness were to follow suit in their own act of generosity, and on and on, imagine the changes we could bring about in the world. 164. I posted this at one of my favorite places to keep up with a small circle of online friends – friendsoflinda@yahoogroups.com

I think you are a wonderful inspiration Chrysti and a special thanks for the reminders of some great quotes on giving!

    Christine

  165. oops – what I wish for – well – I wish your idea spreads!

  166. I guess I’m proof that Christine (directly above me) distributed the info, because here I am!

You’re extremely lucky to be in a position to be able to do this. I used to, as you described, give things to people for small accomplishments whereas no one else put a thought to it. It brought me great joy.

I’ve had quite a downfall in my life, and for the past 15 years have not been able to afford doing so. I lost all my stuff (furniture, car, clothing, etc.) in 1995, and have been struggling ever since.

What do I wish for? I honestly don’t know. I have big wishes… but too big for these purposes. Maybe a Subway gift card, so I could get a treat now and then??

You’re a truly beautiful person. I hope your holidays are as joyful and warm as you obviously deserve!!

  167. Posted to SharedYes. May your spirit set an example for all those around you!

I have a giveaway or 3 to add as well. As soon as I read your post, I immediately started thinking of stuff that I could share. (And remembering those childhood days of easy generosity, when we didn’t know what our stuff was “worth”, but knew absolutely the value of making a friend happy.)

Good luck with spreading this meme, it’s a great idea.

  168. Wishing for the coming year to bring peace of our lives – have a great holiday, everyone!
    Janice

  169. Giving to others is what a life well lived is all about, whether it be in material goods or in a physical ,spiritual or emotional sense. Your example is already reaping rewards in that it has at least encouraged all of us here to re-think our own lives & the way we live them, & to tell others. I’ll pass this on to my 2 Yahoo groups here in Australia, ATCoZ & Stamphappy.

  170. I love this idea of giving. I have sent this message to Cute Stampers list

  171. This is the true spirit of Christmas and I have sent this link to the ATC Angel group.

  172. What a fantastic idea this is….I enjoy giving and am looking to see how I can adapt this to my circumstances!

  180. I feel like we have had a similar journey – my re-awakening began with a fourtune cookie earlier this year – it said a’A new beginning will put you on the right path’ – I assumed this meant my work – I was wrong, seems it was my ‘life’ – I’m back on track, sharing, creating and connecting with other people and am much happier because of it. So great initiative Chrysti – I’ll be checking back and have added a link to your site on my blog :O)

  181. I wish for peace, love and understanding. Thanks for an inspirational blog!

  182. Dont have a website or blog – but will share this site with some friends on my email list.

  206. i’ve been kind of gray and rainy for a couple of weeks, but over the past few days of sunshine and brisk wind have come back to life … and things have started happening. my creativity got kicked into high gear. (supposedly all those fast moving molecules in the air when the weather’s like this.)

so, whereas 2 wks ago i was sure all the things i’d made for etsy were amateurish and ordinary, i can’t stop the ideas now. have to keep notes to remember all the little changes i can make in the things i’ve already made to turn them into magical creations. it’s really astonishing.

i was at a friend’s house today and fell in love with these tiny collage Christmas tags she had hanging on her refrigerator. asked if she got them on etsy. no. ebay? finally, she told me: i made them and gave them to her 3 Christmases ago! maybe the first time my own work inspired me!

anyway, Chrysti, this is a long way of saying that your project has the potential to create that kind of turnaround for who knows how many people and to reconnect them (if they’re disconnected) to their source of inspiration and their belief in themselves and the power of looking at and making art. i’m in!!!

    xoxo — Lynn

    Lynn

  217. It’s the little things (or I should say in your case major things) people as kind as you, who make our world so much better place to live. Congratulations on making this huge step in bringing back that little girl again. But, if I were you I’d stop at giving away your house or car (LOL). Thank you for your inspiration to take a look at our own situation to see how we can help others. I don’t have much but if there is something you need let me know. You have my email address and I have added you link to my blog: http://everythingeverybodyandeverythingelse.blogspot.com/ Maybe you will enjoy some of the art I have been doing. It’s coming up on one year since I started arting.

    Maxine

  227. Wow! You express yourself so beautifully! One by one, I like that. Need to add it to my step by step, day by day motto. Thanks for letting the light shine thru. You are amazing. Hope to spend more time here. Came to you thru Creative Expressions.

  228. I announced this giveaway on
    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/arttechniques/
    thanks Lillian

  229. Thank you for doing this.

  230. Thank you for making us all aware of the really important things….I work for a non-profit organization, and I am very in tune with what comes from a giving spirit.

  231. What a blessing!!! To get a blessing one must be a blessing and you are that!!! Please enter me into the 29 days of giving. I do not have a blog to add your link to or I certainly would!!! Thank you!!

  232. Wow what a great gift for christmas. Thank you and hope you pick me! Merry merry Christmas.
    mamimemo4@yahoo.com

  233. I’ve just started my second 29 days of giving and love that you are doing this also! There are so many ways to give – they don’t all have to be tangible or have monetary value! I love that you have so many people interested and hopefully starting to think about ways of giving! I don’t have a blog, but have passed along a link to your site to a bunch of friends. Thank you for doing this! I hope you’re enjoying the giving as much as I am!

  234. Giving begins at home and with your circle of friends and family, thus friends of mine will pool our money this season and make someone else’s Christmas a little brighter.

My wish is is to practice random acts of kindness all year long and to keep passing that feeling along. I will post your kindness to my friends via email.

I too, have no blog, but belong to one that this message has already been posted to! That’s how I found you, Chrysti. Keep up the great work!

  235. I’ll definitely pass this idea on …… I read abt your good spirit on The Charmed Life blog…. I’ve always tried to do an Act of Kindness anonymously every day but now I can add to that! My wish is for anything red or with pigs, or even Red Pigs! Ha!
    Happy Holidays, Chrysti!!!

  236. Check out my blog at http://www.heartwriting.biz/blog/acts_of_kindness.html.

Thanks for the idea. I also love the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation website.

    Lynda

  237. Wow quite a response. I don’t think you will get through all the emails. Incredible. I like how so many people have been inspired to give away, and the Rak. Just goes to show we are truly a tribe of good people.

  238. Wow! This is the most amazing act of kindness I’ve seen and would love to take part! It reminds me of the movie, “Pay it Forward”. If through your example, everyone would consciously commit an act of kindess…for no reason at all…with no expectations of reciprocation…..what a wonderful world we would have!

I’m posting a link on my blog now for you!

  239. this is so much fun
    thx :)

  240. I will post a link on my art blog.Your very sweet and oh so creative. Thanks, Laurie

  243. Wow, how generous of you, I make cards for charity so giving is in my nature too, you sound like my kind of person, so here’s looking at you kid, as a great man once said..and I will promote your blog on my blog…..lol ..
    Thank you for caring xx

  244. I also do not have a blog….but it is my goal in 2009 to do a R.A.K. each and every day….this site is really getting me in the mood! I am sharing this site with my Yahoo group advancedartiststradingcards.uk
    thanks for the awesome inspiration!Sue

  245. Hi there, What an excellent, generous idea to have this give away. I haven’t made any self portraits but have thought about it, I guess it’s always about beginning. I’ve always had a hard time starting, I almost have to force myself to start anything, but once I do I can usually get things going. So I guess I need to set a deadline and get started…Sharon

  246. Wow! 29 Days! Well I posted at my blog about your insight and this give-a-way! You can see it here: http://prpldy15.blogspot.com/2008/12/29-days-of-give-ways-wow.html

And if you do another round…I would love to donate something for it.

  247. you are an inspiration! I’ll be spreading the word to all my friends too. Gets me in the holiday spirit! Thanks

  249. Ah, Chrysti, what a wonderful inspiring woman you seem to be. I’ve just come to visit your blog via an Aussie group where I got the address, and I am humbled. I’ve been feeling hassled and a bit miserable because of family issues, and here you are, giving yourself and things as well, whilst you deal with health problems constantly.

You are a brilliant example of what this sad world needs more of. Thank you for reminding me of where my priorities should be.

What would I like from you? To be more like you! So wave your magic wand for me please! Thank you.

    Gail from Oz.

  250. I just learned of your site today & is it ever packed with great stuff! It will takes months to absorb! Can hardly wait to dig deeper into it! Thanks for sharing ~ Ellie

  251. I put a link on my blog craftirn@blogspot.com. How fun these giveaways are. I’m, hoping for some Golden paints for Christmas and I also had some workshop DVD’s on my wish list.

  256. Wow!! I’ve never seen such a response, this is great! I did leave a link on my blog to this post, you can find it here, http://artfuladventures.typepad.com/artful_adventures/2008/12/a-lot-of-linky-love-today.html

  257. I forgot my wish! All I want is happiness for all, in particular my kids & husband. And one more thing, it may sound selfish, but I have an upcoming surgery that I just want to get out of in one piece. If you go read my post about paying it forward, you’ll understand:) And one more thing I’d wish for is that your spirit & generosity rubs off on many people. Your post really touched me, it was so sincere, and obvious it came from the heart. That makes for a very special person!

  258. I love this idea and I love ‘Pay it Forward’. Giving does give you the most wonderful giddy feeling. I forwarded this to my group of girls at: SUTradesTreasuredFriendships Yahoo group.

  259. Oh, my wish- I love surprises!

  260. I’m blogging it :)

Awesome giveaways – Thank you so much for the chance~

  261. What an awesome project! I’ve got you posted on my blog here:

    http://tinescreativecorner.blogspot.com/2008/12/awesome-blog-candy.html

What I wish for . . . hmmmmm . . . that’s a tough question. Could get philosophical, but I’m sure that’s not what you’re meaning. Love the altered art stuff!

  263. Checking in again. Happy Holidays. I shared the Winston Churchill quote at the top of your blog with a few friends today. It brought a smile to one friend in particular. Thanks for sharing.

  264. Chrysti,
super idea…sharing it with many…I wish for ideas to flow in creating -from my Heavenly Father….so we really know it is Him who is giving them to me.
Debi Nicol at yahoo dot com

  265. I was directed here from another site and just read your post. I was so touched by the generosity od spirit. What a wonderful person you are. I am often lost in the world of art and creativity and also in the wonderful blogging network where i find so many wonderful freinds and kind people. I think even in this medium we can touch the lives of others so very far away.
You definitely speak the truth with the passing on kindness theory. I have always felt the same too.

I have added your special link to my page but i live in uk so wont be able to enter this. Just really wanted to say thanks for a wonderful read that lifted my spirits :)

Love the Altered Abbey too its got some wonderful art items

    Hugs June xxxx

  266. Hello Chrysti!
    WOW! Loved reading your story.. as a child.. well my Daughter who is 5 is just like you were.. :}
She gives away anything to make another happy;]

I don’t have a website but I am emailing this link to all of my friends in real life who love to craft and all of my invisible friends.. cyber craft gal pals..

The kids and hubby call them invisible. Yet I often go to them more as of late than my busy true blood life friends!

Good Karma shall certianly be returned to you for doing this! Love the Pay it Forward idea.

Truly I’d like a better economy for all of our good for the Holiday Season and to last forever!

I’d like everyone who can afford it to add even five dollars to their fuel bill to help a low-income family make sure they can heat their home/apt this winter season.

I’d love for people to take the time out to go caroling with friends at the Senior villages near-by, to donate the kids out-grown coats and their old ones as well to local Big Brother Big Sister Foundations.

Don’t forget the womens and childrens shelters. They can use new towels, board games, clothing, bottles and diapers too!

    Blessings to all!
    Kimmiek

  267. Great idea, we on here are awesome giving people, everyone can make a difference, I joined the challenge and will put it on my websites.

  276. I wish I could do nothing but art for any period of time, even a life time and not have to fit it in with so many other things. Would that make it lose its meaning? I wonder, but I doubt it…

I wish that everyone in the world could become aware of their inner treasure, their inner art work and let it out.

    I wish I had a bigger – or at least a more user-friendly work/play area.

What fun, Chrysti. Focusing on our wishes is a gift in itself. THanks!

  277. Hi Chrysti,

  282. Hi Chrysti,

You are such an inspiration and like you I love to know that someone smiled by something even small that I may have done for them. As for a wish….hmmm..I’m easy, but it would be really great to be in a swap you host. Thank you for your wonderful story about giving. :) I’ll pass this on..

  283. blogged about self portraits and the 29 days giveaways. http://theviridianmuse.blogspot.com/2008/12/whats-stopping-you-from-taking-self.html

What a great question, and I’ve now added the book to my Christmas list.

    Thanks Chrysti!!

I’ll also most likely be twittering it when I read the newest update. :)

  284. Your post really touched my heart. I am making an all out effort to give to everyone that I care about and to those who may not be able to do so for themselves. We don’t have a lot of money so they will be handmade gifts but it is the thought that counts.

I posted about your giveaway on my blog for all my visitors to read.

As for my wish. After 5 years of battling with undiagnosed medical problems that felt like it was sucking the life out of me, I finally am seeing a light. And I have hope. So my wish would be for art journal supplies and an online art journal class. I want my children to know I am more than what the see.

Thanks for this amazing chance Chrysti.

    Tammy

  291. Count me in! I’ve gien you my post of the day over at onecreativequeen.blogspot.com. I love a good giveaway – and find you totally royal that you would be so giving! ;)

And my wish? To spend a day being pampered. One would think that as the Queen, I live a life of luxury. NOT! lol In fact, my life seems…scarily UNroyal. Which doesn’t seem very fair to me. But then again, I don’t recall anyone asking me!

  305. Chrysti what a nice idea. While I was checking out Queen Katherine site at http://onecreativequeen.blogspot.com/ I read about your 29 days of giving. I had to check it out for myself. I am putting a post on my blog at http://lindasthisnthat.blogspot.com/ so that even more people will know of this. I hope everyone who reads your post is reminded of what not only this season is all about but what we should all be doing in our lives at all times. Even just a smile to a stranger can mean a lot. I am also having a giveaway! Come visit my blog.

  309. This is a wonderful thing to do, so generous. I raised my 2 children to be loving and giving and tho’ they have at times frustrated me with their open-handedness I am very proud of both. When they were young they made me give their summer clothes money to Live Aid. My son supports a charity called Riders for Health which carries on where live aid left off and also raises money for a childrens hospice. My daughter makes cards for terminally ill children, among other things.
I will put a link to this on my blog. Mayxx

  310. I twittered about the giveaways and your Twitterfeed here: http://twitter.com/miscellaneaarts/statuses/1045350748

My wish is to be surprised.

    Thanks for an inspiring endeavor!

  317. I love what you are doing I have always been the type to give and never receive. I have really never wanted for myself only for others. This year I found out that I have a terminal illness so what I want for me is to give as much knowledge to others as I can about arts and my wish is that people go green as much as possible to save our earth for my children to grow in.

  318. […] of time to enter the Day 0 Contest too. As for Days 1-5 …be sure to enter by 2pm EST tomorrow (12/9/08). Cause […]

  319. Hi, Chrysti~
People like you and Lisa Vollrath, who also has a (annual) countdown, are what really keeps me into art. I am limited as to what I do, but I so enjoy the things, articles, images, tutorials, giftees, as well as group conversations that keep me feeling involved.
    Blessings~

  320. Hi Chrysti,

Found you from a @miscellaneaarts tweet and after reading your blog I’m so glad I did!

I tweeted about you and your giveaway at http://twitter.com/J9after5 and will blog about it when I get more time…which leads into my wish – more time. I’ve been asking forever, but the days still maintain the same number of hours and I don’t seem to be getting any younger as yet…

Things are tight financially at my house/studio so I’m hoping to win a giveaway of art supplies or something I can gift to a loved one…but I already got a nice gift in meeting you here, so this is already a winner for me :)

  321. What a great thing to do! I left a comment & link on Twitter here: http://twitter.com/cyberwezz/status/1046992990
    Thanks!!

  322. forgot to tell you I posted a link! :)

  324. This is such a warm and caring idea I love it, my personal philosophy is to ALWAYS find the good in people….no matter what there is something special about each person that someone loves (even if it is only their moms) I find it a great challenge to figure that special thing out. It is sometimes surprising what that special thing is. The person Always feels important that I have taken the time to find out about them.

I would love to add you to my blog, but as I am brand new at blogging my blog is sad. (it is not my special thing) lol. To be honest, I don’t know how to add it.

Anyway this is great what you are doing-sharing a bit of yourself.

  325. […] the word. Enter Day 0 & Day […]

  326. Hi Crysti! I stumbled upon your site about 1 1/2 yrs ago when you were just beginning (I think) to blog. We did a doodle swap together, which was amazing. You had said something about letting go and letting the art take over. I’ve been trying to do that and have grown so much. Thank you so much! I love seeing what you’ve done and how YOU’VE grown. This sounds like a great giveaway. Thanks for being so generous. ~Sharon

  347. I’ve posted a link to your give-away on my latest blog post over at GOT ART?

Glad I stumbled upon your blog!!

  348. Hi Christy,

I just finished writing a blog in which I am promoting your give away project! Also I posted a link. It’s here:
    http://suziblu.ning.com/profiles/blogs/promoting-christys-29-days-of
Please read it, it’s about you! And about me of course. My perception of you and your project.
    Anyway….

    XO, Marion

  349. How generous of you!! I am new to your blog and am having an excellent time going back and reading your older posts too. So much inspiration here, thanks!!!

I posted a link on my blog here: http://mixing-katie.blogspot.com/2008/12/29-days-of-giving.html

My wish for the new year is organization :-)

  350. Hi Chrysti!
Wow! I found you through a link on Pam Carricker’s site, and what you have here is inspiring, AMAZING, and I just want to say THANK YOU, and congratulations!!!

I will be spending hours, I see, taking in all of the wonderful ideas, etc. I love your work, the quotes, everything!

I posted a link on my blog: http://artandsoulstudiogallery.blogspot.com/

My wish for the new year, ironically, is a journal class with Pam Carricker!!!!

    Merry Christmas!!!
    Annie

  351. What a great idea. I want to do this too…and am shooting for early spring when I (hopefully) finish redoing my art room and have weeded out tons of stuff to share…have a box started already :-)

You said to tell you what I wish for…well other than a healthy new grandbaby, better economic time for all of us, world peace and all those other things we all deeply hope for, I would love to be able to go to an Art and Soul Retreat … or something similar. I live in rural Wyoming and there is never anything near me like that, and no money to travel to one elsewhere. A smaller wish would be to win one of your awesome prizes…today’s 5 week class sounds absolutely fantastic!

I left a post about your contest on my blog here:
    http://stampgram.blogspot.com/2008/12/29-days-of-giving.html

  352. […] Day 0 &  Day 10 & Day 11 & Day […]

  353. this is wonderful! I love giving also, but sometimes people have the feeling they have to give back in the same “amount”… so I try to restrict me not to be too generous for not making other people feel bad because they cannot return that much. Christmas is perfect for giving, as every day is perfect for giving. I love this idea of the 29 days of giveaways.
I will post your link on postcrossing.com

  354. So awesome of you to carry out this idea!

I passed the word out on my blog:

    http://kraftyscraps.blogspot.com/2008/12/generosity-of-bloggers.html

  355. Wow – I am touched by your generosity even if it turns out that I am not lucky enough to become a recipient… I have promoted your giveaway on my blog: http://artbeckons.blogspot.com/2008/12/chrystis-29-days.html

What do I wish for? For all the winners to be really deserving… to be really needy for the things that they receive – that would be the best! =)

  365. I have finally had an opportunity to post about your amazing 29 days of giving. Chrysti, you have helped me to remember that I truly do believe in magic and angels and faeries and Santa. I cannot help but feel blessed to have found friends like you in this wonderful world on which we live.
you asked us to say what we would like. I would like world peace (just joined the facebook group). I would love new floors in our whole house – all necessary resources to make that possible at least – including energy. I would love to interview you! I’m not certain when I would actually like to do this BUT if you are available sometime I’d REALLY like to.
In the next few weeks I will be getting my book from blurb to check over. I would love to give one or two copies to someone here. Let me know if you are interested and I will let you know more about it when I get it.

    Two links – my blog:

As it is so close to Christmas I will probably do another post about this after Christmas. Folks are slightly busy now.

    A random question for now:
How does Santa get out of your house?
    – through the front door
    – through the back door
    – up the chimney
    – amidst the faerie dust continuously floating bout your house

    Merry Christmas Chrysti

  366. This was great fun
Everyone really got into the spirit
    Thanks
Hope Santa was good to you

  367. sorry I haven’t written but I was very ill for 3 days with a kidney stone(I know I am a producer of these little gems) I tried to treat it myself with lots of cranberry juice (the straight kind) water, and vicodin. on the second day the pain decreased dramatically, but I was running a fever (I do NOT run fevers my normal temp is 97.2 approx) over night that night (christmas eve)…I hit 103.6. Hubby took me to the ER around 7:30am xmas morning.

They did a CT, and immediately admitted me…#1-stone in the ureter down near the bladder -blocking, and I had #2-Hydronephrosis (nasty swelling of ureter, and backfilling of urine into the affected Kidney. #3-Raging infection of left kidney (when they cultured my urine, it showed the bacteria that has invaded my kidney to be ECOLI!!….needless to say, everything hurt, but especially my neck and spine.

They almost moved me to ICU later that night because my temp reached 104.4, but with my HX of MRSA (now clear, but still i did HAVE it at one time) they decided it was too much risk of me catching something else.

They wanted to put the stint in in the am… I had only one bag of the Antibiotic(Rosethin–sp?) so around 4am I told the nurse to call the doc and tell him I was refusing the stint til they got my temp down a bit.

The urologist came in all arrogant, and this isn’t a game etc etc. mean while, i had a short period of time where I had this pain in my lower chest that went straight thru to my back…they put me on cardezem and nitro…the nitro kept giving me headaches,,,,so I was refusing the patch most of the time. the nursing supervisor came in and asked what happened and why I didn’t want the stent…I told her, it wasn’t that I didn’t want it, I didn’t think it was safe for them to put foreign intruments into my body while I had such a high temp. she agreed and said that most doctors will NOT operate on someone with a temp that high, so she said she would deal with it ( my uro was basically signing himself off my case) she got him back on board, but his son did the stent placement on saturday. I do not do well with stents.

I BEGGED them to remove the stone and the stent before letting me go home, this kept getting avoided and stepped around. they did another CT the day before they discharged me, and it showed the stone was no longer in my tube…they are surmising that it banged itself into pieces against the stent, and for the most part has passed (I Most likely have some gravel to flow out yet) ok, so they tell me no more stone…so I ask please remove stent B4 sending me home, wait a just a couple of days. NO, he wants it in for about 2 weeks.
so new years eve about 4:30pm I was discharged, feeling like crap, and in pain, and my temp hovering in the 98s.

Today has been my best day, but it isn’t great. The pain RX they sent me home with isn’t something the pharm. normally carries and has to be ordered…it will be in Monday the earliest. so I am taking my vicodin ( for my spine and wrist, and neck and knees, etc)…but I can’t take it as often as I could the other bacuse of all the aceteominiphin in it. anyway, my temp is back to hovering in the 99s, with highest being 99.9 , and my BP keeps inching up also. so if things continue on this path, I might just end up back at the ER.

Hope you are all well and that your holidays were enjoyable.

    Hugs,
    Susan

  368. CAN ANYONE HELP???

With me being in the hospital I am missing the last few days of Lisa Vollrath’s Christmas countdown images. (I have the 23rd). I have emailed her, and asked her if she would email them to me (due to the situation) and she said no, but I could purchase the whole lot.

  391. I love being inspired by so many artists that I am finding. I love that the internet can put all of us together in ways that just a few short years ago was unimaginable. I love that there are so many artistis things I can still do even though I have so many health issues. I love that is we look hard enough, we can always find something positive in our day.

  392. If you do another round of this and are looking for co-conspirators I will happily donate an inspiring prize or two. Just email me!

  399. Good day! This is kind of off topic but I need some help from an established blog.

Is it very hard to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty
fast. I’m thinking about making my own but I’m not sure where to start.
Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Many thanks

  400. After exploring a few of the blog posts on your website, I seriously appreciate your
way of blogging. I saved as a favorite it to my bookmark webpage list and will be checking back soon.
Take a look at my web site too and let me know what you think.

  401. Hello! This is my first visit to your blog! We are a collection of volunteers and starting a new project in a community in the same niche.

Your blog provided us useful information to work on.
You have done a extraordinary job!

  402. Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a sea shell
and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.

She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!

  403. Keep on writing,great job!
