“The richness I achieve comes from Nature, the source of my inspiration.”

-Monet

Together – from scratch, we will create these rustic, one-of-a-kind organic shrines to be hung or mounted. Come explore my passion for all this glorious world has to offer while we learn to work with paints and plaster, build our pliable but sturdy pieces, create rich, fossil like textures and add a warm, timeless depth with my personal beeswax blend. My techniques can be adapted in multiple ways once you return home – giving you the ability to apply the skills I teach in a variety of genres, colors, and themes.

Not 1 – but 2 pieces will be created during our day together! You will create one from scratch, and while that cures – we’ll begin transforming bases I personally will create for you prior to class. I will walk you through some of the pitfalls, and offer alternative suggestions to explore at home using my methods.

While I will provide some goodies to work with; students are encouraged to create memories prior to class, that they will honor within their artwork. I suggest taking a few walks, spending time in a pretty place and collecting some of the many found treasures nature has to offer. There is no greater feeling, than gazing upon a piece that is comprised of elements that hold meaning to you.

Come, create your own portable, earthy museum with me.

Wild, wacky, and wonderful – this day long dimensional creating workshop will whet your appetite and provide you with working skills and whimsical inspiration! We will wistfully learn to sketch owls (or simply trace the pattern I provide), outline & shade with wood-burning, create both texture and depth with collage, color blocking & washes, and finally seal with wax –using my own custom beeswax mix and methods. What fun it will be willingly creating our very own wise old owls – for each will be as wickedly indivdual as the creator is!

You can and will finish this piece before class is over! Without sacrificing any of the knowledge or beauty, I found ways to simplify my working process so we can all create, learn and ‘hoot’ our own horns – pressure free! Walk away with an additional wealth of ways to elaborate on your next piece! Whoa!

Whether these wise owls are your taste or not doesn’t matter. You will leave with mixed-media skills that can be worked into many different genres and themes! At the end of the day –you will proudly proclaim – You dunnit!

Whatcha waitin’ for? – join us – it’ll be a hoot!

  7. Chrysti – I too browsed your web site searching for a location… some crumb that might lead me to enlightenment. The closest I can find is your reference to North Carolina.

I doubt if I’d ever make it to NC for a workshop but will bookmark your site and continue to admire your images on flickr. LOVE your work.

Alos, if you should tape some online classes I would love to join in. I know Mossy has one on her dolls which has been quite successful and Pam Carriker also has one. Keep me posted.
